Multifab manufacture Eco-Friendly fuel storage tank.

Multifab has recently completed the manufacture of a 75 cubic metre fuel storage tank for Peterborough City Council.

The tank shall be installed at John Clare Primary School in the village of Helpston on the outskirts of Peterborough and shall be filled with a newly formed fuel, namely wood pellets, which shall be conveyor fed into a new state of the art boiler system provided by Remeha Broag to supply heating and hot water throughout the school.

This new environmentally friendly fuel type will radically reduce the Schools CO2 emissions whilst also saving costs as an alternative to ever increasing primary fuel sources.

Multifab Managing Director Franc D'Agnano said " This is one of the first fuel conversions of this type in the Country and certainly the first in this area. As we specialise in bespoke and unusual work this project was perfect for us. We are very pleased to be contributing to the environment in some small way and hope to work on further projects with Remeha Broag (Boiler Manufacturers) and Peterborough City Council on other similar projects.

In-House Design Capabilities expanded to increase flexibility

Managing Director Franc D'Agnano explained;

"The need to be flexible in the current market made this an easy decision for us. The acquisition of the software package together with Stephens expertise have enabled us to venture into new areas with confidence. We are now strongly placed to offer design solutions in most areas of steel fabrication and have recently secured interesting and diverse projects with new Clients on the back of this investment".

Multifab Makes Waves in Energy Production

City based Multifab Metals Engineering Ltd has recently secured a prestigious contract with Pelamis Wave Power (UK) Ltd to manufacture a number of MOTOR GENERATOR POWER TAKE OFF FRAMES for the next generation of Pelamis Wave Energy Converter, known as the P-2. The end customer on this project is E.ON one of the UK's leading renewable generators for whom the works will be deployed at The European marine energy centre (EMEC) in Orkney in 2010.

The machine will be built at PWP's new Leith Docks facility Edinburgh and will be 180m long to include a range of enhanced design features to improve performance and ease of manufacture.

This will be the first time a major utility has ordered a wave energy converter for installation in the UK and the first time the P-2 machine will be tested anywhere in the world. This energy has the potential to be the most environmentally benign form of electricity generation with a minimal visual impact from the shore.

Multifab Technical Director Steve Crowson said "It is a real coup to be involved with such a ground breaking and prestigious project. The fabrication work has been challenging and interesting. We look forward to further contributing to the production of environmentally efficient energy with Pelamis".

Having recently extended its Factory facility to 24,000 sq ft, Multifab is well placed to carry out all aspects of Mild Steel, Stainless Steel & aluminium fabrication & Sheet Metalwork from concept to completion working with a diverse range of Clients. Multifab take first steps to London 2012 Olympic Success
Multifab Metals Engineering Ltd have recently been engaged on their first contracts associated with the London 2012 Olympics.

Two projects have been secured, the first being re-generation & relocation works to areas of Hackney which ensure building plots are freed up for new construction sites. The second project is a substantial structural steel fabrication to form part of a new waste treatment site which is being developed to handle the increase in waste production as a result of the Games.

Director Franc D'Agnano said 'It's good to get involved in the 2012 project at this relatively early stage. We shall be looking to build on this promising start and to supply reliable structural and architectural steelwork packages to Contractors engaged in this exciting venture'.

Multifab Introduce Tekla Building & Construction Design Software

Tekla Structures

Tekla Structures is Building Information Modelling (BIM) software that enables the creation and management of accurately detailed, highly constructible 3D structural models regardless of material or structural complexity. Tekla models can be used to cover the entire building process from conceptual design to fabrication, erection and construction management.

Tekla Structures streamlines the entire workflow from sales, bidding, cost estimation, and conceptual design to detailing, fabrication, erection, and follow-up. Tekla Structures not only increases productivity in each phase, but also enhances the entire building value chain.

Innovative technology

The structural steel industry is facing more challenges due to shorter lead times, lack of complete information, problems in revision handling, and a wider need to collaborate with other disciplines. Tekla Structures enables the most data-rich, highly constructible 3D and 4D structural building information models, and is a significant contrast to current document-based platforms where drawings and reports are distributed and reworked among different organisations.

Multifab Technical Director Stephen Crowson commented "Implementing the Tekla construction and design software enables Multifab to be at the cutting edge of the construction industry, allowing us to respond rapidly and professionally to all enquires/orders we receive".

Tekla develops software solutions, products and services for customers' core business processes in building and construction. Tekla's model-based software products are used in more than 80 countries.

BUSINESS AWARDS 2005: Tears of emotion for triumphant winners

THE tears of emotion said it all. It's right to say it's not about the winning, but the taking part. But it all became just too overwhelming for words for company director Steve Crowson the moment his firm was crowned Small Business of the Year 2005 at the Evening Telegraph's 10th Business Awards on Monday 21 November 2005.

It was the ultimate accolade for Steve, his brother Adrian Crowson and Franc D'Agnano, who are founder directors of Multifab Metals Engineering Ltd in Peterborough.

The entrepreneurs had come back to the awards with a fiery determination to make it to the top spot after acquiring a taste for success when they reached the finals last year.

And so it's no surprise that the team was ecstatic to be called on stage to collect the coveted award from host presenter Dermot Murnaghan and Steve Robertson, of the sponsors, Business Link for Cambridgeshire.

Steve was lost for words, but his brother Adrian said: "We tried to win this award last year, and we're absolutely overjoyed to get it this time.

"This is another 12 months on, and in that time we have learned a great deal. Our business has gone from strength to strength, and gets better and better. It's always down to the people that work for you."

Franc added: "We have been driven by the desire to achieve even more than last year, and this is absolutely fantastic."

Multifab Metals Engineering Ltd began trading in December 2001 as a three-man partnership between Franc, Steve and Adrian.

It continuously increased its sales figures by huge margins for its first three years, and in 2004/5 notched up a £1 million turnover – representing an increase of 45 per cent on the previous year.

In the last 12 months alone they have invested in new machinery, increased the volume and diversity of their client base, and purchased a 16,000 sqft factory unit in Newark Road, Fengate, Peterborough, where they relocated in September. They have taken on an extra four staff, bringing their total workforce up to 10 people.

More than 230 of the region's business leaders attended the glittering gala dinner at Peterborough's Moat House Hotel, to mark a decade of business excellence.

Dermot Murnaghan, presenter of BBC Breakfast, was this year's guest host at the event which began with a champagne reception sponsored by Badenoch & Clark, followed by a sumptuous four-course meal.
